As usual, the majority of my crafting explorations begin because I didn’t like the price tag on the store version of what I wanted. Case in point-wreaths. I love them, but if I want more than one for my front door, I’m going to need to put my DIY cap on, play some Beach Boys Christmas music and try to channel my inner Joanna Gaines. This year I wanted a simple, minimalistic, rustic look. So here are the supplies I used…
Supply List:
Scissors
Ribbon
Floral Branches/ Grapevine Wreath
Greenery (Shrubs, Magnolia leaves, etc..)
Floral Wire
Since I had floral branches I needed to form a circle-obviously. My branches were wired, but if you’re using real branches you’ll need ones that bend easily and fasten them with wire.
Like so..
Luckily we have holly shrubs in our front yard that worked well for wreaths. Their leaves can take being tugged on a little here and there without falling apart If you don’t have any holly, try a neighbor’s yard, a park, or get creative with whatever greenery you have access to. . There are lots of options when it comes to fresh wreaths: rosemary, magnolia leaves, boxwood…
Now you just start wrapping the stems around the wreath attaching with floral wire. I wanted mine to be extra secure (they will be around two little ones) so I wrapped the wire every inch or so.
You may have to go back and fill in a few sparse areas that need more leaves, but there shouldn’t be too much tweaking needed. There you have it! A simple, possibly free, DIY wreath. Merry Christmas and happy decorating!
Hi Amy! Oh, how I love your blog! This craft is perfect! I just showed my daughter (she will be 13 on Christmas Day) how awesome it is. She wants to launch her own lifestyle blog for teens! This would definitely be a fun activity to share with the kiddos!
