Your Thanksgiving Table doesn’t have to be extravagant and expensive to be beautiful and welcoming to friends and family. It can be as simple as using the pumpkins leftover from halloween (real or faux), adding some type of foliage, and throwing in a few candles. Here are a few tips to get your Thanksgiving Table ready to share a meal, conversation, and make memories with those you love.
Thanksgiving Tablescape: Use What You Have
The secret to budget decor is reusing what you already have and finding a creative twist to make it work for the occasion. For Thanksgiving, most of us have leftover pumpkins (real or faux) somewhere in our house. If needed, give them a nice dose of chalk paint {Find my tutorial here for how to How To Paint Pumpkins With Chalk Paint}. Now is a great time to find discounted, faux halloween pumpkins and paint them to match your desired color scheme.
Thanksgiving Tablescape: Borrow From Nature
Thanksgiving and Christmas are the perfect times to go all natural for your tablescape. They are reminiscent of the season and bonus- free! Take a walk outside and gather branches, pinecones, leaves, etc.. I have a magnolia tree in my backyard which supplies most of my table greenery, but it can be anything green (dried leaves are great too). I simply overlapped mine in an “S” shaped pattern. Super simple. No tying them together, no glue, no fuss. Pine cones would look great too if you want to add variety and dimension. Another tip is not to forget about what your grocery store has in stock! I buy wheat bundles every fall and find a place for them. No watering, no risk of killing them. They look great all season. I simply snipped a few to match the size of my plates and they added a nice touch over the napkins.
Thanksgiving Tablescape: Buy Staple Pieces
You probably wont have everything you need (or want) for your fall table. My last tip is to buy staple pieces that can be reused for more than one season. If you buy napkins that say “Happy Thanksgiving” they can only be used once a year. Instead, buy simple solid color napkins (I love white) that can be used every season and embellished with ribbon, greenery, napkin rings, etc.. that match the season. Here are a few of my favorite staple pieces and where to find them.
Thanksgiving Tablescape: Make It Unique
It goes without saying that I love vintage pieces (shocker, right?). So I try to have at least one vintage piece on my table for each season. For this tablescape I used antique books that were passed down to me from my grandfather. They add a sentimental touch and lots of unique character. I also used antique golden candlesticks to match the gold flatware and chargers. The gold always adds an elegant touch and who doesn’t love candlelit dinners? So next time you visit your local thrift or antique store, don’t forget about your table decor. You want your table to resemble your style, your family, and your story. You don’t want the same table as everyone else on Pinterest or the newest home decor catalog.
Those are my tips for decorating your Thanksgiving table and I wish you and yours a wonderful Thanksgiving! Wear stretchy pants, don’t count calories, and maybe shut of those screens for a bit and remember that being present is a gift that we can all give to each other.
