The Swimsuit Struggle

So, I’m a mother of two amazing little guys. My body has literally brought life into the world and sustained it, twice! It was a privilege and I am blessed to have been able to do those things. That said, swimsuit shopping post two breastfed babies is a struggle. I didn’t even know where to begin with sizes (I’ve fluctuated 3 times before, during, and after breastfeeding) I also have a pretty little scar from a C-section that I’d like to keep on the down low (that’s a whole different post). So I thought I’d share a few tips that helped me navigate through the intimidating section of swimsuits.

Tip 1.  Go with as few children as possible🙂

Shopping can be a hassle and kids typically don’t enjoy the process. If you have some “me time” use that opportunity to swimsuit shop. Maybe a trip to Grandma’s or some one on one time with Daddy.

Tip 2. Go with a healthy mindset.

Psyche yourself up before you go. Remind yourself of the awesome things your body has done, and be realistic about expectations. Get a healthy dose of perspective. Think in terms of what your body can still do- are you strong, able to move the way you want, healthy? Remember the ways your body is helping, not hurting you. Appreciate what it does for you every day.

Tip 3. Find a suit that works for you

Don’t focus on the biggest fashion trends, or styles. The suit should fit your body, not the other way around. If you don’t love the stretch marks on your bum, find a skirt or short styled bottom. If your gals aren’t as perky as they once were, look for underwire and padding.

Tip 4. Take a variety of sizes into the dressing room.

If you’re like me, I’m a one and done kind of shopper. I hate traipsing back and forth to dressing rooms (especially with a cantankerous baby). So pick the size you think you are plus one smaller and one larger.

Tip 5. Go for your best NOT the best.

Expecting a suit to turn you into a Victoria Secret model will leave you feeling depressed and without a suit. Instead, think in terms of “my best” Leave with what makes you feel comfortable. Also, keep it practical….you don’t want to be pulling and tugging, or worrying about a top falling down while building sandcastles with the littles.

Here’s what I ended up with. Of course I chose a vintage style:)image

You can find the top here

And the bottoms here.

Happy Shopping!
